Instagram just silently added an in-program payments feature as a test appearing for several users. The feature allows users to add a debit or credit card and a trap for additional security. Following the initial installation, users could make purchases from Instagram. Currently, some users have the ability to book appointments at spas and restaurants via a 3rd party integration with a dinner reservation program Resy. Instagram has confirmed to The Verge that users have the ability to book services from a restricted number of companies on the stage. The payments feature seems like a continuation of Instagram’s programs from March 2017 to provide business profiles the choice to allow users to book services.
It is only rolled out to your users, but in the March statement, Instagram said it’d roll out the feature later in 2017. It seems that never occurred, and the roster is only now starting, albeit at a test phase. Given how many influencers on Instagram already peddle various products from wonder bras to holographic Macbook cases, there are loads of businesses out there that can use this function, if Instagram does decide to completely expand in program payments.
